Welcome

I'm so glad you came by. I hope I'll be able to keep things interesting so you'll want to come back for a visit - I love the company!

I have many flowers I will be showing pictures of and a lot of critters that come around looking for a handout. But they give as much as they take since they're so much fun to watch. I always try to have my camera handy hoping for a shot better than the last one.

2 Year Blog Anniversary Giveaway

My 2 year blogging anniversary kind of snuck up on me so I'm a bit late with this post. I've been going through posts for the year to mention and show some pictures but I haven't seen anything memorable. Guess it just hasn't been a great year.

I was the lucky recipient of a birdfeeder and seeds on Beccas blog anniversary giveaway over at A Southern Garden By Becca. This was the greatest prize and just what I needed to go with another feeder I had just gotten at a garage sale. To read this post click here.

I bought myself gifts to keep from going stir crazy when I couldn't garden.

On a later post I showed what I filled it with. It turned out great, if I do say so myself. ;-) In fact I bought many nice planters for the deck last year and they all looked so good. I'm trying to replace all of my old plastic ones with pottery. This same post also had the Tipsy Pots I finally got around to doing. Click here to see all the new containers I got and what I put in some of them.

Keeping Records Of The Plants You Buy I'm glad I put on because it’s so easy and you all seemed to think it was a great way to keep track of your flowers. Easy or simple would be my middle name. Click here to read what I do.

I showed some work I did, finally, on the sedum garden I eventually want to do. Click here to see many of my sedums and the gardens they will connect.

We have a Western Tanager that visits every day or so to take a bath. What a beautiful guy he is but ohhhhhhh does he get funny looking towards the end of his bath. To see this scary sight click here.

I do love the birds and critters around the place and thought this was the funniest bunch I've taken in a while. It's a story of the Grosbeaks and the Chipmunk. Click here to see more.

I did do a couple of cute ones for Vintage Thingies Thursday that got great responses but they had nothing to do with gardening. But I do like variety and in February and March there isn't really anything here anyway except things just starting to pop up which is exciting but nothing to take great pictures of. Sooooooo . . .
One of the ones I enjoyed was with ColoradoLady for Vintage Thingies Thursday. It was on my vintage record player and I included a video of an adorable song I had on a 78 record and everyone seemed to love that post. A nice change when the weather is cruddy. If you'd like to see the post with the video playing this cute song click here.

I did some Fertilizer Fridays with Tootsie over at Tootsie Time throughout the year.

Another Vintage Thingies Thursday one I especially liked was about my 1946 Bendix Radio. You have to see this little treasure - it looks like a sewing machine, is a drop leaf table BUT . . . when you turn it on the wood lights up with a dial.

Go here to see it lit up.

Click here to read the story of The Nutty Narrows bridge (named after the Tacoma Narrows). This is a wonderful story about a man who cared about the little creatures that were being killed while trying to cross the streets.

Our trip to California was fun this year and many of you added Eureka and Ferndale to your list of places to visit after seeing these 2 towns with the beautiful Victorian homes. I did 4 posts on California and if you'd like to read them just go to my index and click on California.

I visited friends' gardens, some locals including a Daylily nursery, a 'Rare' plant nursery, a nursery with lots of yard art and wood carvings, and my new favorite nursery. Click here to read this one.

Now for the drawing. Gee, it's taken me so long to do this I guess I can't have it on Friday now so lets shoot for Tuesday since I'll be gone to an appointment out of town on Monday. Just come to this post and leave a comment and your name will go in.
This is a piece of slate with the prettiest picture painted on it. You can prop it up in one of your gardens and it will look very nice I think. After Bob draws a name on Tuesday I will contact you for your address. Good luck!

  2. What a beautiful plaque you chose for your giveaway! Happy two-year anniversary! This was a great idea, to do a post linking to lots of other great posts from the past year. We had a couple of Western Tanagers show up in our garden last year, but they didn't stay.

  3. The painted slate piece you're giving away is beautiful. You're so generous to give it away ~ I think I'd want to keep it!!!
We are supposed to have western Tanagers in Colorado but I have only seen them on rare occasions. I wish they visited often like yours do. They are such colorful birds ~ looks like they belong in the tropics!
btw, I think I have about 20+ Amaryllis. Too many, right?!!
Congrats on your two year blogaversary too.

  4. rohrerbot yes, you are absolutely right - hadn't thought of it that way.

Alison thank you so much. I got a little confused getting all of those links right though. We love our Tanager and he comes so often. He's sure silly looking when bathing though.

Thanks Kathleen and wow you have even more Amaryllis that I thought you did. Amazing!!! Isn't that Tanager a hoot when he bathes? Maybe it's his coloring that makes him look goofier than the other birds when he's wet.

  7. Congrat's on 2 years! I haven't been over to visit in a while. Glad you picked out a few posts to highlight...I love the one with the chipmunk! Very cute narrative;-) Your birds are really cool. I have never seen a Tanager, and while I've seen a Rose Breasted Grosbeak I've never seen a yellow one. Very cool! And that table radio is awesome!

  8. Linda, I think it is funny that you almost let your anniversary go by, I missed mine completely. I like seeing your birds, they are different than the ones here on the east coast.

  14. Linda, Happy Blogiversary! Love all those sedums! Every year, I lose several of mine. They don't like to be in the garage in winter. I also love the idea to replace plastic pots with something more pretty. That piece of slate is something!

  15. Love the idea of taking pic of garden tag. My spiral notebook is very worn out, so I've been thinking of going to page per plant in a binder. Sounds like a huge task, so haven't started yet until more baby plants are in the ground...
