Welcome

I'm so glad you came by. I hope I'll be able to keep things interesting so you'll want to come back for a visit - I love the company!

I have many flowers I will be showing pictures of and a lot of critters that come around looking for a handout. But they give as much as they take since they're so much fun to watch. I always try to have my camera handy hoping for a shot better than the last one.

Show Heart Some Love On Valentines Day

Good news for chocolate lovers . . .

We got a postcard from our healthcare provider saying they wanted to share a few ways we could show our heart some love this Valentines Day. Being a chocolate lover I particularly liked the first one. It said: BE SWEET - studies have shown that dark chocolate may help keep high blood pressure down, your blood flowing and your heart healthy. Some say it even mimics the feeling of being in love. Still, moderation is advised.

I went to town the other day and realized I should have taken the ‘boat’ because it rained and rained and rained buckets and rained some more. I hydroplaned all the way home even going very slow. But it was still worth the trip because I found some great buys on bulbs.

We’ve been wanting more glads so we’d have a bigger showing of them. We already have a variety of colors so I picked up these gorgeous pink ones. Look at the price on them - 50 giant bulbs for $6.00.

Some even prettier ones were 24 bulbs for $5.00. Hope they come up for that price. I know I was curious once and bought a package from the dollar store and they came up so I’m thinking pretty positive about these. And it's always a good thing when they donate to the 'Susan G. Komen for the Cure' cause.

Then I spotted these . . . We had Hollyhocks a few years ago and Bob just absolutely loved them. I don’t even remember where they came from but they were in front of the shorter flowers so I know we didn’t plant them like that. I wasn’t crazy about the color and they spent a lot of time laying on their faces because they were so tall and not staked properly. I found these gorgeous pink doubles and I know he’s going to be thrilled when I show them to him. This year he’ll be prepared and can put them where they belong with support.
Have a great Valentines Day and go eat some chocolate ~ for your health of course.

  3. Nothing better to make the rainy day blues go away than some nice new bulbs and plants. The colors of the hollyhocks are sweet. I think these plants are so pretty! Happy Valentines Day to you! You know what? We got the same health letter here too. I really like reading those letters-though I don't always follow the advice. You stay well!

  4. Next time my husband complains about candy wrappers in the car I'll have to tell him I eta them because they're good for my heart!

I hope we get to see those glads blooming this summer! Bet they're beautiful.

  5. Dear RG, I have certainly warmed to Gladioli as the years have gone by as I do think that the cut flowers make the most dramatic statement when crammed into a vase in the drawing room. I am sure that your bargain bulbs will do well, but a tip from J would be to plant them deeply as it helps to stop them toppling over.

I am afraid to say that the idea of Hollyhocks has always been better for me than the reality....but I do wish you well with yours. They are a glorious colour!

My blood should be flowing pretty good then because I have these chocolate kicks every once in a while. LOL! I will have to remember that one and tell them it is good for my blood. LOL! Happy Valenetine's day to you and your honey.

Thanks for the encouragement to eat chocolate too!! lol. I do it without encouragement but now I'll feel less guilty about it. :-)
I've been addicted to those double hollyhocks myself ~ I hope they come up for you along with all those glads. What great finds.
Happy Valentine's Day to you and yours too.

  9. Someone told me yesterday that chocolate is the new protein that we need everyday to help keep our pipes running clean. Do you believe that? Well I do and I'm gonna eat my chocolate.

By the way since the chocolate went on the shelf in the stores - I've bought myself a few boxes of the good stuff. Good too...

  11. It sounds like you had a bargain there Linda, I look forward to seeing the results later in the year :) I love Hollyhocks but never seem to be able to keep them from year to year.

I have just enjoyed the previous post too with all the cheerful Summer gardens, really lovely.

You have reminded me I have some chocolate hidden away in the cupboard...I think I wish you hadn't ;)

  14. I'll be anxious to see how those Glads do for you, Linda. Love the blooms but I think critters eat up the corms and I get few blooms...
Hope you had a great V Day!
