Welcome

I'm so glad you came by. I hope I'll be able to keep things interesting so you'll want to come back for a visit - I love the company!

I have many flowers I will be showing pictures of and a lot of critters that come around looking for a handout. But they give as much as they take since they're so much fun to watch. I always try to have my camera handy hoping for a shot better than the last one.

He’s So Cute I’ll Serve Him Huckleberries

This little guy was hanging out on the deck. He was below the suet so I figured he could smell it and was thinking of a way to climb up there and get some.

After all the Black-Headed Grosbeak and the Western Tanager were getting to eat it.
And she’s even letting the big guy (Stellar's Jay) have some.

I’m just gonna go over and get some . . .
And he heads the other direction over to my new Blue Huckleberry Bush.
I’ve got to stretch a little more to reach the good ones.
And proceeds to sit there and munch on them.
And he was just cute enough to get away with it so I could get a few pictures. Now the bush is planted so it’s open season because I can’t see it around the house. Hope I get to taste some of them.

  1. Oh, how cute is that little chipmonk? I haven't seen one of those in a long time (maybe the last time was at the zoo??) We don't have them around our yard. I would have let him have a couple huckleberries too! I wish I could leave suet out in the summertime but those darn starlings and grackles hog it all (and I don't want to help them) so I stop supplying it until they leave in the fall.

  2. He is too cute. Sometimes you just gotta let them steal some of the good stuff. I only see chipmunks when we camp, it must be fun to see them in your yard. Are they better than squirrels when it comes to bird feeders?

  3. Hi Kathleen, Actually I chase off the Stellars Jays too because they are big piggies. I just let him have a bite for a couple of pictures. I've been yelling at him all morning to go away! LOL We have chipmunks but not so many squirrels - a few. Bob wires the suet because the racoons steal it at night!

  4. Hi Catherine, I'm not sure if they are or not. They can be a pain like squirrels - like they tore all of the insulation out of the pumphouse. But they are cute. I put out a thistle sock for the finches once and the chipmunk ate the whole thing. He would be clear down inside it and ya couldn't see him but it would be swinging back and forth - I'm cracking up watching cause who needs finches with this show going on. They can be cute and bad both!

  6. I spent a good deal of time yesterday trying to get a photo of a chipmonk but he was too skittish. However, the sassy squirrels seem to like to pose for the camera.

  7. And look at his shimmery fur. He looks like a healthy feller. I would be feeding him too. They're just so cute. Only gray squirrels here in my neck of the woods but they're smart and don't venture into the backyard because they're not fond of being chased, mauled and finally consumed by my garden cats.

  8. They are cute, but I'm glad they haven't found their way here yet! I figure before too long, the squirrels and chipmunks will find my sunflower seeds.

  10. Ahhh, I love little chipmunks. We used to have them when I lived in Maine. Here in VA I haven't seen any-ever-but we have squirrels (too many squirrels!). I love your photos of him and the birds, especially that beautiful blue and black bird--is that the black-headed grossbeak? Have never seen one of those. Great shots...and cute!

  11. I eventually worked out that this was a chipmunk! We don't have them in the UK. What a fun series of shots.

  12. Those little guys are so cute. I guess if I had them in the garden I might feel as I do of squirrels...but chipmunks are cute!
Love seeing the Stellar Jay too-- we just have Blue Jays here in Virginia.

  13. Cute Chipmunk, I don't get to see them hardly at all. I found a bunny's nest in my strawberry patch yesterday and they were 10 babies in that litter,
geez...like we really need more bunnies.

  15. Tina the Stellars Jays are pretty but they really can be a pain in the bumper. And so can the chipmunk - but cute. Guess they both have their good and bad points - kinda like us huh?

Wonder why Jill - I think they are both so cute.

Grace they're cute but can be a pain in the hiney too. OOOhhh too bad about squirrels at your place.

Robin's Nesting Place - well hope they hold off if you're not anxious for them. The can be a nuisance.

Okie Dokie DP on his way! The bird is a Stellar's Jay.

Jan, the Black-Headed Grosbeak is in the 4th picture. The blue and black bird is a Stellar's Jay.

Thanks Linda - sorry I didn't mention that - don't know where my head was - probably stuffed up with this horrible cold I have! ;-)

Now see Janet I think Squirrels are cute and wish we had blue jays up here - they are so pretty! LOL

Cathy that's too funny 10 babies? You find so many bunnies around there it probably isn't funny. Dang they multiply like rabbits! ;-)

Catherine it seems like I did get it on video but it was so long ago and my rememberER ain't what she use to be!

  16. What cute pictures of your little thieving chipmunk. I think your stellar jays are so much prettier than our blue jays.

  19. Hi Lona now isn't that funny cause I wish we had the blue jays up here because they are so pretty!

Vuejardin sometimes lucky, when they aren't digging holes, eating something they shouldn't be or tearing the new insulation out of our pumphouse.
